Although drawn by a different enginner, this map was produced using the survey data collected by Maj. J.J. Abert. Abert was the author of the 1823 map found here. His efforts following the War of 1812 are repurposed here just before the Civil War. The map prominently identifies the high ground along the rivers, highlighting their strategic importance.
